Skin Needling (Collagen Induction Therapy) with Dermaroller

If you suffer from uneven, dull or lifeless skin, wrinkles, open pores, scarring or pigmentation... your solution is Dermaroller!

Roll back the years with this revolutionary technology...

How does the Dermaroller work?

Unlike other ablative skin treatments (e.g. laser peels) that destroy the epidermis, our roller does not destroy the epidermal barrier. In fact the epidermis stays intact allowing it to heal quickly after a treatment. This gives collagen induction therapy a huge advantage over other skin treatments, as it means less down time and risk to the patient.

The roller works by creating ‘micro wounds’ in the dermis of the skin that over time encourage the body to stimulate the natural production of collagen. Over time a thicker layer of tissue will develop which ‘fills in’ the cavities left by atrophic scars and wrinkles.

What is the Dermaroller?

It's a cylindrical drum studded with very fine needles. Please note the medical rollers used at *rubywaxx* are for professional use only and are disposable single use instruments.

What effects does the Dermaroller have on the skin?

It improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis. This in return improves the skin texture and reduces wrinkles. It also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation, new collagen fibres, an improved blood supply and harmonises pigmentation.

How is the skin needling performed and does it hurt?

The skin is cleaned and then numbed with a numbing cream, so the treatment should not hurt at all. The skin is then needled with the Dermaroller, so that each skin part is needled 15 to 20 times.

Can skin needling be performed on any skin colour?

Yes, since Dermaroller does not use thermal heat (unlike IPL and lasers) it is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colours. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

How often can the Collagen Induction Therapy procedure be repeated?

As often as required. For Collagen Induction Therapy we recommend you start with 3 treatments, but at 6 week intervals.

What are the side-effects of skin needling?

There are virtually no negative side effects, and none have ever been reported to our supplier, Dermaroller.

Post-op infections are very unlikely, as the procedure is done under clinical conditions.

What is the down-time after a skin needling treatment?

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 24 hours on average.

In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing minerals, peptides or hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc-based sunscreen. We also recommend the use of mineral make up to help with the healing.

What should I avoid on my skin?

To ensure the right healing environment, for 2 to 3 days DO NOT use AHAs (glycolic acid), Retinol, acidic or "active" ingredients. If you're unsure about your skincare products, please ask the team at *rubywaxx* for advice.

How can I make the most of my Dermaroller treatments?

It's recommended that you invest in a Homecare Roller that you can use at home... the Homecare Roller is painless, and has 2 main functions:

  • To stimulate the top layer of the skin - the epidermis. Over time, by using the Homecare Roller, the epidermis will increase in thickness, decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, the Homecare Roller does not stimulate collagen.

  • The Homecare Roller delivers more skincare product deeper into more viable layers of the skin.

How much is a skin needling treatment at Rubywaxx?

One skin needling treatment with the medical Dermaroller is $600.

If you pre-pay for 4 treatments, you will receive a Home Care Kit (with the Homecare Roller) FREE of charge... that's a $600 value!
